A cultural icon stands the test the time. They might not always be the hottest thing at the moment but you can bet that when the time is right, they will be there front and center making headlines and getting people talking. In the world of sneakers, there are names that were hot in the ’80s – like Michael Jordan to name the most obvious – that still resonate today and push the culture forward where it’s the through the kicks they wear or the brands they represent.

But what about the names that are of a most recent vintage? We are living at the height of their popularity and every time they rock something new or different, people are paying attention. The question isn’t whether or not they will be dominating the sneaker game tomorrow but whether or not we’ll be talking about them years down the line. Do they have the staying power of a Jordan or a Iverson or a Penny or a Run D.M.C.?

Champs Sports and their blog TheDrop takes a look at the current kings of sneaker culture today and who they feel will still be at the center of our attention five years from now. Check out their list here.
