It used to be a Puma location, but now Vans is taking over. 1051 N. Rush St in the Gold Coast shopping district of Chicago will become familiar with the skate scene, as Vans plans on building a nearly 2,500 square store. Of the two story, 7136 square foot building, Vans will likely only use the first floor for the store.

The Gold Coast shopping district has been expanding far past its traditional boundaries, while other brands like Urban Outfitters continue to move further north and other higher end brands further south.

Even though retailers like Vans might not be considered luxury, it’s certainly fashion. The Vans and the Urban Outfitters of the world tend to be pioneers in expanding existing retail corridors or creating new ones,” said Greg Kirsch, executive managing director in the Chicago office of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

If anything is for sure, it’s that the West Coast skating vibe is quickly gaining ground. One could only hope the West Coast vibe will be present at every coast.
