Vans is stepping into the classroom and embracing the art of shoe customization with a new Shoe Customization Contest. The contest will put high school students (grades 9-12) across the country against each other in a project that will push the limits of shoe customization. Vans will send participating schools one pair of each of the following sneakers: Slip-On, Authentic, SK8-Hi’s, and 106s. Students will be expected to customize each sneaker in one of the following themes: art, music, action sports, street/fashion while still maintaining consistency across the brand. In other words, each school will create their own collection.
The grand prize includes a trip to L.A. to tour the Vans headquarters and $10,000 to the school’s art department. Students will also be awarded a ticket to the Vans Warped Tour and a commemorative t-shirt. Finalists, 4 to 35 students from 4 different schools from each of the 4 selected regions; Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast.
