We have seen a number of sneaker manufacturers revisit and modernize their retro designs. Today, New Balance joins the fold introducing a re-engineered New Balance 996.

Along with its new look the sneaker also gets itself a whole new name, the MRL 996 FU. The updated version featured a lot of synthetics and a neoprene-like material that New Balance has named Fantom Fit. The updates seem to be focused on the front of the sneaker however as the back have still features the more traditional mesh and suede.  The new look is also sitting atop New Balance’s renowned REVlite foam. It is definitely a unique look that lends itself to some interesting split colorways.

The New Balance MRL 996 FU has begun to show up at New Balance retailers today.  What do you think of the updated New Balance 996?
