Very few collaborations trace back to their roots like Shoe Gallery has done with this Reebok Ventilator. Located in Miami, Florida, Shoe Gallery has taken the history of its city and placed it on a sneaker.
The Shoe Gallery x Reebok Ventilator “El Mariel” takes its inspiration from the Mariel boat lift emigration of 1980, in which thousands of Cubans emigrated to Miami. The upper of this Ventilator is done in a white patent leather on with a blue inner liner liner that is meant to resemble the look of a boat. The heel of one shoe reads “El Mariel” and the ankle reads “FL 305 US” for Florida, the area code of Miami and the United States. Not pictured here, the translucent outsole also has an anchor on it to go along with the boat theme.
Catch the Shoe Gallery x Reebok Ventilator “El Mariel” at select Reebok retailers on September 5th for $130.
Love the inspiration and the story behind this colorway of the Ventilator, but I feel like the colorway fell flat. I understand that its meant to mimic the look of a boat, but it just looks too plain for me.
