This new colorway of the Nike KD 5 pays homage to the inspirational person in your life that remains a hero through their tough, daily battles. For Kevin Durant, that driving force was his aunt who ferociously battled breast cancer. The “Aunt Pearl” KD 5 was a result of that love, done in collaboration with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Check out what Foot Locker had to say about the intricate and well thought out design:
The design started with the logo that’s on the back of the tongue. There are angel wings around the initials “AP” in the shape of a round pearl. The style of the “AP” was drawn in a way that looks fluid and marbled like a pearl. The same AP graphic is then repeated on the upper as a white on white reflective print that gives the upper more texture and an element of surprise when the reflective hits the right light. Another element to the design is the use of mother of pearl shell textures as a reference to “Pearl”. The art of pearl shell inlaying has been used on everything from jewelry boxes, ancient Chinese wooden screens, to fretboards on guitars, often times to illustrate stories. These pearl shell inlays are beautiful in their color, depth and texture. This pearl inlaying inspired the graphic pattern that is on the collar lining, tongue, swoosh, and sockliner topcloth. The star pattern originated from the pattern used on the outsole design, but each part of it is a piece of mother of pearl. The shoe’s also come with a separate pair of white laces that say “Aunt Pearl” on the tips.
If you aren’t already in line to cop these, set your alarms….you only have a few hours left!
