I know more than a few people who would dance for Jordans...

When you check out the official website of the Charlotte Bobcats, the first thing you are likely to notice is the banner ad that features Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.  No Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, no Ben Gordon, no Bismack Biyombo, not even MJ himself.  Instead, it’s two of the best players in the game today and they are advertising them as part of their ticket packages.  You can guarantee yourself tickets to those marquee games but the catch is that you have to buy tickets for four other games and chances are those four other games are not going to be good.  It’s a common practice for bad teams to do that, no big deal.  But it’s always somewhat shocking to see Michael Jordan in the position that he’s in.

I know more than a few people who would dance for Jordans…

Here is simply the greatest basketball player of all time relegated to being the owner of maybe the worst team of all-time.  It’s such a dichotomy that no one has been ever to figure out, not even MJ.  But now it seems like he’s finally getting to the point where he is not above asking others for help.  For example, there were reports that Jordan was actually interested in drafting Harrison Barnes, the hyped but ultimately disappointing prospect out of North Carolina, his alma matter.  Jordan has had a history of drafting or signing guys either from UNC or Duke (Sean May, Raymond Felton, Gerald Henderson, etc.)  and it has not panned out for him.  So to hear that he drafted Kidd-Gilchrist was an upset in and of itself.  He was ceding control to Rich Cho, the highly regarded former GM of the Portland Trail Blazers and getting coach Mike Dunlap, not necessarily someone from with Tar Heel roots.

So in many ways, this could be the turning point for Bobcats.  Sure they’re going to be bad for a long time as they try to rebuild for a while, but that’s the nature of NBA now; only the Lakers can reload and not rebuild.  And if I were MJ, I would do everything in my power to use my Jordan Brand/Nike influence to snag free agents to come over.   The kicks game is a bigger part of the process than it has ever been and I would make sure all of my Bobcats was adequately laced in nothing but the best in Jordan Brand/Nike gear.  It’s the little things…

The Connections

Player: Gerald Henderson (Jordan Brand)

Here’s hint for all of you college recruits out there: if you want to play for MJ, sign with North Carolina or Duke.   I don’t think MJ is completely over his ACC bias and he is the owner so he has final say in everything.   That’s what I’m telling my nephews, that’s for sure…
