Charlotte Hornets Facebook

You knew things were never going to be the same for the Charlotte Hornets when this picture started popping up this past Monday.

That’s Kemba Walker, starting point guard for the team and arguably the best player they have had since they switched back to the Hornets after being the dreadful Bobcats for nearly a decade. Since coming into the league in 2011, Walker has worn Under Armour kicks and developed into one of the brand’s bright spots prior to Stephen Curry blowing everything out of the water. He’s worn everything from the Juke to the Spine Bionic to the ClucthFit Drive and the Curry One. But that’s all over now and he’s rocking the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” to Media Day. So much for Michael Jordan not having say on who gets Jordan Brand deals, huh? Because come on…

After a season that some pegged was going to be a breakout year for the Hornets, the team is looking to rebuild from the disastrous Lance Stephenson experiment and hope newcomers like Jeremy Lin and Nicolas Batum along with rookie Frank Kaminsky can help out Walker, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and the criminally unappreciated Al Jefferson. Look, it’s the Eastern Conference, anything can happen…

How perfect are these kicks for the Hornets, you think? Kinda perfect or really perfect? Expect every Nike/Jordan guy on the team to wear this at least a few times this season until we finally see the Air Jordan 30 debut.

Kemba Walker wore everything Jordan at UConn, whether they were retros or Team Jordans, like the above pictured 6-17-23 model. Yeah, there’s no projecting at all. Nope, none whatsoever…

With the exception of Russell Westbrook, no player had access to more Air Jordan XX9 exclusive colorways than Kidd-Gilchrist. It makes sense because he is a Jordan Brand athlete, but it also doesn’t hurt that his NBA boss is also that guy. If you’re looking for somebody to wear plenty of Air Jordan 30s this year, look no further than MKG.

So yeah, those PEs with the white Primekint upper and Hornets-flavored accents are worthy of a few fire emojis from me, proving once again that purple and teal makes anything better.

Kicks: Too many to count at this point. Who knew there that many Ewing Athletics kicks?

Ok, maybe Ewings should stick to Knicks colors, but it’s still worth a shot…

Batum appears to be wearing the flip version of Lin’s Crazylight Boosts and I’m not mad at that. So many adidas kicks would look good in Hornets colors and I’m interested to see if the three stripes let them wear PEs of the J Wall 2 and the Rose 6 to give those kicks a unique look.

During his Utah days, it wasn’t out of the ordinary to see Jefferson rock Shox, NIKEiDs or even special colorways of the Hyperdunk, showing a side that you normally don’t expect from his position. Since coming to Charlotte, he’s been a regular in Air Jordan XX8 and XX9 player exclusives.

Ever notice that MJ has a penchant for drafting or trading for uber-successful college players that more often than not, flame out in a few years or never reach their potential? Adam Morrison, D.J. Augustin, Walker, Gerald Henderson, Cody Zeller and now Frank Kaminsky is the next on that list. Jordan better hope he ends up more like Walker and is a building block for the future and less like Morrison and Augustin. At the very least, Frank The Tank will be sporting good looking Js on the bench for a few years. Here’s to hoping he does an interview someday in those JC Penny suits he endorses with matching retros.
