After getting turned down by Nike, adidas, and Under Armour for a shoe deal last week, Lavar Ball and his son Lonzo Ball have unveiled Lonzo’s first signature shoe, the ZO2 Prime.
Created by Lavar Ball’s own brand, Big Baller Brand, the signature shoe of the projected top 3 pick in this year’s upcoming NBA Draft is currently available for pre-sale for a whopping $495. If you’re a hardcore fan of Lonzo there’s also a more expensive autograph version that you can purchase which comes housed in “a clear acrylic enclosure, with cool white LED lighting.” That pair will cost you $995. Yeah, that’s not a typo.
According to the Big Baller website “The ZO2: PRIME was meticulously developed at every stage by Lonzo Ball. Debuting in a low-top cut, the Prime flies first class without compromise. An Ortholight© insole is embedded throughout the entire insole for maximum comfort. A full bed of shock absorbent material keeps the shoe lightweight for high-speed performance. With a Custom Hand painted the bottom, Microfiber python texture in Matte Black, and a Delorean finish.”
SLAM reports that “BBB is aiming for Lonzo’s signature sneaker to tap into a new market—above the athletic performance kicks from the likes of Nike, Jordan, adidas and Under Armour, but below the high-end designer shoes of Gucci, Prada or Louis Vuitton.”
In addition to the sneakers, Big Baller Brand also created the ZO2 signature slides, which also feature python microfiber texture and Lonzo’s personal logo. Retail price for those is $220.
The shoes and slides will begin shipping by November 24, 2017. What are your thoughts on Lonzo Ball’s independently made signature shoe?
