Kevin Durant loves the kids. This was evident during the unveiling of the Nike KD 7 which was filled with children. KD and Nike Basketball also show their love for little sneakerheads with a fresh new colorway for infant to GS sizes only. Entitled the Nike KD 7 GS “Carnival”, the fresh markup is perfect for the young athlete. Nike also explains the functionality of the shoe for smaller feet saying:
The KD7 Carnival expresses the vibrant color palette of summer carnivals in a shoe designed exclusively for the performance and style demands of young athletes.
“Nike is focused on designing performance footwear for young athletes, from grade school, preschool and toddlers, that unlocks their athletic potential,” said Michael Sarantakos, Nike’s senior designer of Young Athlete Performance Footwear. “The key for Nike when engineering the KD7 footwear for kids was to focus the technology on flexibility to help kids learn to move and enjoy the sport of basketball.”
Like the adult KD7 line, the young athlete version is focused on combining superior cushioning with protective stability and lightweight quickness. A prominent forefoot strap helps lock down the upper across the top of the foot for stability. Nike Zoom Air technology in the grade school version and EVA foam in the pre-school version provides ultra responsive cushioning. Hyperposite construction in the heel of the shoe and low ride height of the outsole combine to provide lightweight stability and hold.
The kids’ versions of the KD7 have been designed with distinct series of flex grooves across the forefoot of the pressure-mapped outsole to provide greater flexibility. Nike has years of experience in natural motion design established by the Nike Free technology.
The innovative design of the KD7 Carnival delivers bold twists of color and sleek lines to give young athletes the ability to perform on the court and express their personal style. Like the adult versions, the Young Athlete KD7 colorways feature design elements created using personal cues from Durant including a silhouette of his home state of Maryland embedded in the outsole; and a forefoot strap with the names of his mother Wanda, his grandmother Barbara, his father Wayne and his brother Tony.
The Nike KD7 Carnival, exclusively for young athletes in sizes Infant through 7Y, will be available globally beginning Aug. 9 from nike.com and select retail locations.
