Nike Golf has introduced their latest top-flight golf shoe, the Nike Lunar Control 4. We were on-hand for a special chat with Rory McIlroy and new Nike Golf VP Gentry Humphrey to introduce the shoe yesterday and here is your first look:

The shoe features a lightweight technical microfiber upper (not engineered mesh, which would have been my first guess) and Nike Flywire for support. It contains a Carbon fiber shank like you’ve seen on an Air Jordan 11 or a Nike Air Foamposite One, full-length Lunarlon cushioning (hence the name Lunar control). The shoe’s signature feature that makes it stand out is the swoosh that starts on the toe box and extends to the midfoot. It’s a look we’ve seen previously on a special edition version of the Nike Lunar Control 3, but this is the first time we’re seeing as the default look on a golf shoe.

The shoe’s will be available in men’s and women’s sizes on November 27 at Nike.com and December 1st at golf stores for $170 and will come with a 2-year waterproof warranty.

Stay tuned later today for our chat recap featuring Rory and Gentry from Dubai, where McIlroy is looking to finish his season strong as the European Tour’s top-ranked player.

Author’s Take:

The move of the swoosh to the toe was a minor controversy when it was first revealed on the Lunar Control 3. The fact that there was any controversy at all just goes to show you how much the game is stuck in its roots. But with the game’s top players now mostly in their 20s, a paradigm shift is happening and that includes footwear. With Gentry and Rory leading the charge, we should see some very interesting kicks on the links in the future and the Lunar Control 4 is just the start.
