“What exactly is a ‘Carmine’?” is probably a question you’ve either heard or uttered at least once in your life.  Well, unless you play Gears of War and take joy in watching a band of literal brothers die in the most sardonic ways possible, you should know that carmine “is the general term for some deep red colors that are very slightly purplish but are generally slightly closer to red than the color crimson” (h/t Wikipedia).  Hilariously, the Air Jordan 6 actually gets a mention in the Wiki, giving credence to how popular the term has become in sneaker culture.

This weekend will be one to remember for sneakerheads and especially Michael Jordan fans (note: despite what you think, those two things can be mutually exclusive) as the Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” returns for the first time since it was part of the 7/16 “Countdown” Pack.  The Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” and most Air Jordan 6s for that matter are beloved because of their role in Jordan’s history (it’s the kicks he wore en route to his first championship) and because of their perceived rarity compared to other early Air Jordans that have seen numerous retros over the years.  Of course, there are also the athletes that rock them on the court and the celebrities that continue to swag out in them that keep them in the public eye.

So with Carmine-a-palooza about to hit, let’s take a look back at the many times the shoes have hit the floor with these blasts from the past featuring Michael himself and a bunch of other people that really want to be like him.
