When rumors and leaked images started coming out about the Nike Air Penny 5 back in early 2012, it was an interesting test case to say the least. Nike was not only going to make another signature shoe, but they were going to make one of a player that was really last relevant in the 90s and has been retired for quite some time. Granted, that player is universally loved and celebrated to this day and his retros and hybrid releases have always been a cause for celebration in the sneakerhead community, but to actually release a signature shoe proper over a decade since the last iteration? That’s uncharted territory.
But then again, we should know better by now than to doubt Marc Dolce and Nike at this point, right? Take a look at this tweet a little over a year ago. That’s a hell of a first draft…

So with that in mind, here are our picks for the best Nike Air Penny 5 colorways. Sure, it didn’t get the plethora of colorways that current players like LeBron James (who is a big Penny Hardaway fan) or Derrick Rose (who played for Penny’s alma matter) do today, but that might have been intentional anyways, when it was conceivable to complete a full run of a sneaker without having to annihilate your life savings.
10. Nike Air Penny 5 “Camo”
So this might just actually be an honorable mention because it’s not like any new info has popped up on these lately, but the connections between this still-unreleased colorway and the “Camo” Nike Air Foamposite Pro are pretty strong and could be a sign of a bigger themed release in the future. Stay tuned, I guess…
