HBO

HBO’s Ballers is seen by many things by many people. For fans of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it’s a chance to watch him take on a more nuanced role as a financial manager struggling to maintain after living it up for years as a football star. For those who felt burned by the bro-tastic Entourage, this is could be the satirical yet serious look into the world of fame and excess that the previous show would not touch. And then there’s the Kicks On Fire offices (ok, just me who watches the show on DVR after True Detective) who spots the Jordans that have been prominently featured so far. Because that’s what we do…

This past Sunday’s episode has Rocky’s character Spencer and Rob Corddry’s Joe hosting a gala event in South Beach in an attempt to lure clients to Anderson Financial. One of Spencer’s best friends is newly minted wide receiver of the Miami Dolphins, Ricky Jerret, played by John David Washington (yes, Denzel’s son). But all is not well with Ricky as he adjusts to being the new guy on the squad. One his new teammates is not too happy with the situation and takes every opportunity to haze him like a rookie. Knowing this could be his last chance in the NFL, Ricky has played it cool during training camp. So what finally put him over the edge? Dropping his precious Doernbecer Air Jordan 3s in ice water of course…

That isn’t the first time we’ve seen Jordans in the show and I doubt it’ll be the last. The show’s intro sequence features a quick look at a sneaker collection with the Nike Zoom Vapor Tour AJ3 getting a solo shot and in episode 2, Ricky wore the black and white Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG during one scene. And we haven’t even seen Rocky’s character go through a workout session where he either rocks Nike or Under Armour gear.

Ballers airs every Sunday night at 10pm on HBO.
