Asics has been doing some pretty big things with the Gel Respector as of late as the sleek silhouette was just featured in two different collaborations alongside Concepts: the Concepts x Asics Gel Respector Coca and the Concepts x Asics Gel Respector Black Widow.
Kicking things off proper in 2016 is yet another collaboration this time with Spanish sneaker boutique 24 Kilates who will be celebrating their 10th anniversary in the new year. Known as the 24 Kilates x Asics Gel Respector Virgin Extra, this sneaker is inspired one of Spain’s top exports, extra virgin olive oil. Dressed in a few different shades of green as well as tan and purple, the colors on this shoe are meant to represent the the colors of raw Arbequina olives before they are cold pressed into olive oil. As far as materials go, this Gel Respector has been adorned with a premium leather and nubuck with perforations appearing on the side panels and toe.
The 24 Kilates x Asics Gel Respector Virgin Extra will be releasing with special packaging that includes a burlap sack, an olive leaf hang tag, and a bottle of extra virgin oil. Look for this collaboration to drop on January 9th exclusively in-store at 24 Kilates in Barcelona and their new Bangkok, Thailand location with a wider release as select global Asics retailers the following week.
The more I see the Gel Respector the more I like it. It reminds me a lot of the Gel Lyte 3 which I’m a big fan of. The theme and colors used on this pair were executed to perfection in my opinion. Job very well done by both Asics and 24 Kilates. Congratulations on the 10 year anniversary!
