Independence Day is one of the biggest holidays that our country celebrates every year. It’s one of the most festive days of the year along with others like Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years. It takes place pretty much in the beginning of the Summer and it’s the perfect time of the year to enjoy some quality time outside barbecuing with your family and/or friends. Also since the weather is nice and warm, it’s the perfect holiday to wear SNEAKERS! This is not like Christmas or Thanksgiving where it’s traditional to wear a shirt and some nice dress shoes, it actually gives you a valid excuse to rock something comfortable and that you actually like, haha.
Last year I wore the Wolf Grey/Red Nike Lunarflyknit Chukkas and the year before that I brought out some red, white and blue Air Jordan 1 Highs. This year I’m not exactly sure what I’m wearing yet, but I’m leaning towards some Jordan Futures, Roshe Runs or some Gel Lyte 3s, I haven’t really decided yet.
In the month of June and early July most brands are busy releasing their 4th of July/USA/Independence Day colorway sneakers and it’s a fun time for everyone, and it’s also hard to keep up with all of the releases. Everyone from Nike, Jordan (not this year), adidas, Vans, Asics, etc. has at least one patriotic release to celebrate the grand holiday. So what will you be wearing tomorrow? I came up with a list of 10 Kicks To Wear On The 4th Of July and I tried to make it one with variety. It would have been really easy to make one with just Nike and Jordans, but I wanted to cater to everyone out there who loves other brands like Asics, Saucony, Vans and adidas, especially since a lot of the shoes on this list are recent releases and more accessible. Oh and they also won’t cost you too much, so that’s always a plus! So here’s the list in no particular order. Enjoy!
1Nike Dunk High CMFT “Independence Day”
Let’s start off with something classic, the Nike Dunk High. This particular model is the CMFT edition that comes with a new and more comfortable midsole than the regular Dunk. The sneaker has denim, stars on the ankle and an American Flag guitar pick hang tag. Does it get more American than this? Yeah, I didn’t think so either.
2Vans Authentic “Americana” Pack
The Vans Authentic. One of the most popular sneakers ever that people of all ages wear. Seriously, I’ve seen everything from a 1 year old to a 45 year old wear a pair of Authentics. This particular colorway is perfect for 4th of July with its American flag print upper. I challenge you to find a more patriotic pair of kicks. Don’t worry, I’ll wait…….
3BAIT x G.I. Joe x New Balance 574 “Cobra Commander”
The BAIT x G.I. Joe x New Balance 574 “Cobra Commander” released just a couple of weeks ago and I think many people slept on this shoe. It may have been a limited release, but I don’t feel like it received the attention that it deserved. This 574 is not technically an “Independence Day” colorway, but the colors are perfect for the occasion. A blue upper with red accents and a white midsole are the perfect recipe for a great comfortable sneaker to lounge in this weekend.
4adidas Pure Boost “Stars and Stripes”
adidas is killing the game with their Boost technology. If you’re planning on being on your feet or are playing host for Saturday’s festivities, you’ll need something comfortable to wear. This new “Stars and Stripes” colorway of the adidas Pure Boost is just what you need. The white Three Stripes match up nicely with the white midsole. I wanna know when we’ll be seeing actual color Boost midsoles though??
5Nike Sock Dart “Independence Day” Pack
The Nike Sock Dart has become one of the hottest commodities that Nike has to offer, and this “Independence Day” Pack has a little something for everyone. I know some people that were after one specific colorway and some that were after all three. There’s nothing like something comfortable that you can easily slip on to lounge in on a warm Summer day. This Sock Dart pack was a major hit from Nike.
6Nike LeBron 11 “Independence Day”
I know that this is not a new release, but I think that this Independence Day colorway of the LeBron 11 was slept on hard by mostly everyone, and I’m not just saying that because I have it in my collection (maybe I am). The gum outsole and the glossy red Swoosh are what catch my eye the most. Another dope feature of this shoe is the 3M palm tree graphics that trace around the armorposite panels. I’m glad people slept though cause I was able to pick them up for way below retail. #TeamBelowRetail
7Saucony Shadow 5000 Red/White/Blue
Saucony is ALWAYS releasing heat no matter the time of year. This Shadow 5000 just happens to sport a red, white and blue that just happens to be perfect for the 4th. The suede/mesh/nylon construction keeps it lightweight, comfortable and breathable for the Summer. This would be a great choice to wear tomorrow because it’s highly unlikely that many people actually wear something other than Nike/Jordans. #SwitchYourStyleUp
8Air Jordan 1 Mid “True Blue”
Here’s what you’re probably thinking right now, “An Air Jordan 1 MID”??? Also, “the only ‘True Blue’ colorway I like is on the Air Jordan 3”! Well my friends, you have to learn to expand your taste and wear something different. Do you know how many people will be wearing True Blue 3s tomorrow?? A LOT! This Air Jordan 1 uses the same color combination as the popular AJ 3 but places the elephant print around the ankle and on the heel. This is without a doubt the best feature of this sneaker. One of the best, if not the best Air Jordan 1 Mid ever created.
9Concepts x Asics Gel Lyte 3 “Boston Tea Party”
Like I mentioned up above, I wanted to show love to a variety of different brands in this top 10 list. Asics is a brand that doesn’t get the credit that it deserves. With the Gel Lyte 3 celebrating its 25th anniversary, there has already been a handful of great collaborations that have released. One of my favorites, that also landed on my Top 10 Asics Collaborations of 2015 So Far, is the Concepts x Asics Gel Lyte 3 “Boston Tea Party.” This shoe just screams USA! Red, off-white and blue, and touches of silver and gold for good measure make this one of the nicest patriotic shoes that I’ve seen. Asics and Concepts did a good job of not going over the top with stars and stripes, it’s just right.
10Nike Air Force 1 Low “Preserved Icons”
The Statue of Liberty is one of the biggest symbols of the U.S. The tablet that the statue holds in her hands has the date July 4, 1776 written on it, so you know this is as close to Independence Day as we’re gonna get. This Air Force 1 Low “Preserved Icons” releases at most retailers today and has one of the most unique features that I’ve ever seen on a shoe. The entire copper upper changes to teal (the color of the statue) when the shoe is exposed to heat. Once it cools down it switches back to copper. That’s amazing!
Bonus – Converse Vintage Flag Chuck Taylor All-Star ’70s
There’s no need for me to explain why this made it as the “bonus” sneaker to wear on this list. Just look at it. The Chuck Taylor is an American icon in footwear and it’s covered in America. That’s all that needs to be said. I can already picture the “Purple Rain” firework going off in my backyard tomorrow. Happy 4th of July everyone!
Now that you’ve seen my list of 10 Kicks To Wear On The 4th Of July, I want to hear from you. What kicks from my list were your favorite? Which ones are you not really feeling? And which ones would you add to your list?
