The Air Jordan 21 (XX1 or XXI) - White / Varsity Red - Metallic Silver were released on February 18, 2006, and retailed for $175. They feature an all white leather upper with black and red accents. One of the most noticeable features in the black portion on the sides which feature a mesh construction, providing plenty of ventilation for the bearer’s foot. The Air Jordan 21 (XXI) was designed by D’Wayne Edwards and is modeled after the Bentley Continental GT coupe. There is some resemblance to the car, presumably the car’s “matrix” front grill and the front of the shoe. Forefoot breathability features are combined with a newly engineered durable textile for support and durability in key performance areas. The extended heel counter construction provides extended ankle support. The newly foam-backed quilted collar complements the seamless booty construction to provide maximum comfort. Breathable mesh is brought to the tongue to dissipate heat, while the adjustable tongue cover flips up to expose the breathable technology, or flips down for a more sophisticated look. They also feature a fully-double lasted phylon midsole which provide a low-profile stance. An evolution of the I.P.S (Independent Podular Suspension) can be seen on these from the Air Jordan 20 (XX), and now include interchangeable cushioning technology with a customizable heel zoom pillar or heel encapsulated pillar. The carbon fiber shank plate offers midfoot and arch support, which adds to the comfort these provide, which is what they were truly built for.
