As time went on, skateboarders were having much more of an input into the design of the Vans range. Flying out of concrete pools at high speed was taking its toll on skaters’ feet, so when wanted a hi-top with more ankle protection, Vans developed the first enclosed, padded, hi-top skate shoe called the Skate Hi, sometimes written as the SK8 Hi, to satisfy this need.
