The Classic leather version was made for the casual consumers.? Its clean lines and simplicity made it a gentleman?s shoe.? As years have passed, new monotone colorways such as green, navy, black, red, and white have been produced.? Along with the colors, high- top versions, slip ons, and strap/strapless versions have all been released.? In 2003, Reebok released a City edition Reebok Classic.? It featured graffiti along the invisible outsole of the shoe.?

Being just one of the Reebok ?Classic? range of trainers, the Reebok Classic (officially name the Reebok Classic Leather) was released in 1987, but it is much a familiar shoe that it seems to have been around for much longer. The model has now appropriated the ?Classic? name, and when anybody speaks of reebok Classics, or even ?Classics?, only one shoe springs to mind. As anohter of the ?cultural? entrants into the Hall of Fame, no list of trainers would be complete without it.

The Classic (to use its common name) is the biggest-selling single model of trainer in the U.K. today. It is seen everywhere, every day and on every street corner. Strangely, the shoe seems to have no cultural boundaries and easily crosses over the different genres of inner-city youth culture, and is seen most often in its purest white ?Bling Bling?form. The popularity of the Classics among the older generation also cannot be underestimated. And due to the comfort factor, the Classic is also popular with supermarket-visiting mothers.

Even though the initial beginnings of this shoe are clouded in urban folklore, this particular piece of folklore happens to be true. When reebok was developing the model for production, there was a misorder at the factory, which resulted in the delivery of some hyper-supple kangaroo leather. With time at a premium, the shoes were made up using the now kangaroo hide and a ?Classic? shoe came into being. It was the very nature of this ?mistae? that gave rise to the shoe?s popularity. Love it or hate it, there is no denying that this trainer is incredibly comfortable to wear. However for a shoe that is so universally popular, it sure takes a lot of stick. Curiously, even though it is so popular, and even though Reebok is the only British brand to be part of the ?big few?, it is adidas that has brand loyalty among the British trainer purists, with Reebok receiving more respect ?across the pond? in the United States.
