The Nike P-Rods SBs were the first signature skateboarding shoes for the Nike SB line. The young Nike SB line launched in early 2002, had some great skaters as spokesmen including Forbes, Mulder, and Supa, but when it came time to making a signature shoe for the line, Nike SB turned to the young Paul Rodriguez as a front runner.
Paul Rodriguez was the first pro skater to be signed on to Nike SB in 2004. In 2005, the Nike P-Rod SBs were released and were an instant favorite among skaters. The Nike P-Rods were the best designed Nike skateboarding shoes when they were released.
The new Nike Zoom Air P-Rods are well built, strong, comfortable skate shoes - a perfect combination. Nike P-Rods SBs also have a very subtle look compared to many of the other skateboarding shoes that Nike has put out. The Nike P-Rods were released in much more tame colorways than the SB Dunks. A lot of this style and quality comes from these being the Paul Rodriguez signature model Nike skateboarding shoes, and P-Rod definitely knows what he’s doing.
Like Michael Jordan, Paul Rodriguez was a well decorated athlete when he was signed to Nike SB. P-Rod is a two time gold medalist in the X-Games. Even at this young stage in his career, he has a famous nickname P-Rod much like how Jordan was nicknamed MJ. In fact, there was even a colaboration between Tinker Hatfield and the Nike P-Rods.
