The 996 was created for the discerning runner. It was the first NB to be made with two different sole last: one for a narrower foot, and the other for a wider width.? It was very successful and had a reputation for being a well- produced shoe, especially in the United States.? It was also the first running shoe to break the century mark in terms of price. It was reissued in 1998 as a kids? shoe in a variety of colorways. It originally had a cerecom upper, but that was later changed to leather in both the lace- up and Velcro editions.
