To buy or not to buy? That is the question. With the release of the highly anticipated Nike Air 1/2 Half Cent Penny - Varsity Royal on March 7th, 2009, many collectors are faced with a tough choice. Should we pass on the symbolic Varsity Royal Blue color-way and hold out till the release of the black on black color-way ? Or buy both?

It’s only been a month since the highly anticipated Eggplant Foamposite caused massive lines at retailers nationwide. An now we have something new from the Nike camp. The Nike 1/2 Cent Hybrid has been causing a lot of hysteria and is probably one of the best looking hybrid that we have seen from Nike thus far. The instant classic combines features from previously released Air Penny’s and the beloved Air Foamposite model. The 1/2 Cent name takes its inspiration from Lil Penny’s jersey number. Paying a little tribute to the little man, the shoe features his silhouette on the heel and a 3D hologram on the sole.

The Nike Air 1/2 Half Cent Penny - Varsity Royal were recently released unannounced at House of Hoops and caused huge lines and sold out with hours. A few pairs have been spotted on eBay for as much as $350! Check out detailed pictures and 3D video below!

For all of you NBA fans out there, you already know that this upcoming weekend is an important part of the season, as Phoenix will play host for the 2009 All Star Weekend. In this latest version of Clash of the Kicks we are going to pin the Nike Zoom Kobe 4 (IV) - West against the Nike Zoom LeBron 6 (VI) - East. But first let’s get into the dual that these two have been having all season.

It may be labeled East Vs. West in the All Star Game but let’s face it, all eyes will be on Kobe vs. LeBron. Hopefully the guys take on the challenge of guarding one another once again. In their first meeting this season, each one guarded the other and basically canceled each other out. So the team whose role players did a better job got the win…in this case the Lakers. In their second meeting, there was just as much hype but it was announced prior to the game that Kobe had flue-like symptoms. He had a quiet night for the most part, although he ended up hitting a big turnaround fade away over LeBron. King James on the other hand was shut down by the Lakers Defense and had a terrible shooting night, allowing the Lakers to end the Cavs 23-home game winning streak.

Let’s not forget about each of their unforgettable trips to Madison Square Garden in which they destroyed the Knicks. Kobe scored 61 points, shooting 19 for 30 from the field and going 20/20 from the free throw line. Oh yeah and Lebron, well he didn’t do much besides almost notching another triple double while dropping 50+ points. In a potential NBA Finals match-up, this weekend will be interesting, and we can’t wait to see which superstar will step up and knock down big shots in the clutch. Just remember, the Mamba is known as the best closer in the game, and there is no one more clutch in the last four minutes of the game.

Last week’s Clash of the Kicks asked Jordan fans to choose sides between two of the most sought after and classic color-ways of the Air Jordan 11 line-up. The Air Jordan 11 - Concords Vs. Space Jams battle ended in a glorious victory for the Air Jordan 11 Space Jams. It was a tough decision to make as any person in their right mind would love to have either of them in their collection. This week, we are back with yet another brain-teaser…

The Air Jordan 13 was released in 1997/1998. On December 30th, Jordan broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA record, by scoring in double-digits for the 788th consecutive game. He also led the Bulls to their sixth NBA Championship title. Hatfield kept on making original designs. The Air Jordan 13 (XIII)’s featured a nice hologram on the ankle and the design was said to be inspired by a panther. The outsole with pads like a paw and circles representing whiskers.The hologram showed the following images: a basketball,  the number 23 and the jumpman logo.

After much feedback received from our Sneaker Rant column about Why not the Concords? (Air Jordan 11 / 12 Package), many readers raised the concern about Jordan Brand’s color-way selection. We all know that on December 20, 2008, the Air Jordan 11 (XI) / Air Jordan 12 (XII) Countdown Package will contain the Air Jordan 11 - Black / Red (Bred). In a head-to-head showdown, our polls showed the Concord color-way barely beating the Breds (Black / Red). But what about the Air Jordan 11 - Space Jams?

1. Air Jordan 11 - Concords - The Air Jordan 11 - Concords were first released in November, 1995, and retailed for $125. They are dubbed the Concords, after the official colorway. They feature a white upper with black patent leather around the base, which was the first time patent leather had been used on a basketball shoe. They also feature a clear outsole, which is adored by many, but made many Air Jordan fanatics disappointed at the fact that they turn yellow after a while. Other specs of the shoe include a carbon fiber spring plate, ballistic nylon uppers, a Huarache inner sleeve, quick lace system, carbon fiber sheath and air sole.

2. - Air Jordan 11 - Space Jams - The Air Jordan 11 (XI) Retro - Space Jams (Black / Varsity Royal - White) may be the most adored of the Air Jordan 11 (XI). They are dubbed the Space Jams because they were worn by MJ in the 1996 movie. They feature a black upper, which includes black patent leather, along with a varsity royal Jumpman logo. The white midsole, which does stand out and draw attention to the shoe, sits on a clear outsole, which looks yellow here because they tend to turn that way with use and even by simply sitting there, as the oxygen in the air will do that to them. The Air Jordan 11 (XI) draws inspiration from a tuxedo design, and it is quite evident with the patent leather, and many of the colorways.

We continue to expand our Clash of the Kicks section with the latest: Air Jordan Spizike - Cool Grey Vs Citron. We stepped away from our previous ways when we only covered old school kicks/releases such as: Air Jordan 1 (White / Black - Red) Vs. Air Jordan 6 - Olympic and Air Jordan 5 - Fire Red Vs. Air Jordan 4 - Mars Blackmon. This time, the battle highlights two significant releases that are headed our way on December 24, 2008 besides the Air Jordan 11 / 12 Countdown Package which will hit stores on December 20, 2008. Here is a detailed breakdown of the contestants…

1. The Air Jordan Spizike - Cool Grey were thought to be European exclusives which upset many fanatics here in the states. But good things come to those who wait, and the cool Greys are finally set to release in the US at select Jordan Brand accounts. For those of you that are anxious to know, they will release along side the Cactus colorway on December 24, 2008 (updated) and retail price is $175. They are inspired by the great cool grey Air Jordans that have released in the past:

2. The Air Jordan Spizike - Citron was also originally thought to be exclusive to Europe. They are definitely one of the nicest and most unique colorways to grace the Spizike silhouette. The upper features a practically black colorway along with cactus and violet accents most notably on the modified elephant print. They are slated to hit US accounts on December 24, 2008 and are a Lifestyle (LS) release!

Which color-way do you like best?

The previous two Clash of the Kicks were more targetted towards Air Jordans. This time around that battle continues but within the Nike SB department. Both pairs are notorious in their own ways and are ultimately impossible to find in deadstock condition. They sometimes are sold for as much as $600+ a pair! Here are the contenders….

1. The Nike Dunk SB Low - Pro Pigeon is the original Pigeon Dunk. It features a grey / red colorway and is constructed from leather and suede. The tongue is mesh, and a pigeon is featured on the heel of the shoe, hence the name “Pro Pigeon”. There was much anticipated hype for the release of this shoe, and it definitely lived up to it, and then some. Due to its immense success, Nike has release several other pairs which take inspiration from this particular model. Here are some examples:

• Nike P-Rod 2 SB - Pigeon

2. The Nike Dunk SB Low - Tiffany featurea an aqua and cool grey colorway, and were designed by Nick Tershay, the team manager of Diamond Supply, Co. They are part of the Team Manager Series, and were released with the Nike Dunk Low Pro SB - Vapors (vapor / mineral yellow). However, these received much more attention, and were the most highly anticipated Nike Dunk SB perhaps, ever. It is rumored that only 4,000 pairs were produced. They are highly flashy and will turn heads anywhere. Due to its immense success, sneaker companies have released several models which take inspiration from this particular model and mimic its colorway. Here are some examples:

Last weeks, Clash of the Kicks was definitely a tough one to call as the Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro - Fire Red barely defeated the Air Jordan 4 (IV) Retro - Mars Blackmon! Many readers were forced to make a tough decision as both color-ways are marked as classics within the Air Jordan line-up.

• Air Jordan 1 (I) Retro 2003 - White / Black - Red (Detailed Pictures)
• Air Jordan 6 (VI) Retro - Olympic (Midnight Navy / Varsity Red - White) (Detailed Pictures)

The Air Jordan 1 (I) Retro 2003 - White / Black - Red were released on November 22, 2003. They are 1 of 3 Air Jordan 1’s (I) that were released in patent leather versions. The upper consists mostly of red patent leather, with white inserts and black accents, including the Nike swoosh and laces, which are a nice touch. They are really flashy, and are definite head turners. They are extremely difficult to find in dead stock condition.

The Air Jordan 6 (VI) Retro - Olympic (Midnight Navy / Varsity Red - White) were release on September 15, 2000 and retailed for $ 120. They are dubbed the “Olympics” as they feature the American Flag colorway…red / white / blue, and were originally worn by Jordan in the Olympic games. The Air Jordan 6 (VI) features similar elements from the Air Jordan 5 (V), including the lace locks and clear sole. Besides that, they are a completely different shoe. The pattern on the shoe is interesting. If you look at the shoe the right way, the number 23 appears with the number 2 standing upright on the back of the shoe and the number 3 laying down, facing the ground near the laces.

Clash of the Kicks - Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro - Fire Red Vs. Air Jordan 4 (IV) Retro - Mars Blackmon!

Air Jordan 4 (IV) Retro - Mars Blackmon: The Air Jordan 4 (IV) Retro - Mars Blackmon (White / Varsity Red - Black) was dubbed the nickname Air Jordan 4 (IV) Fire Red Mars after the colorway, and after the picture of Mars Blackmon embossed on the heel of the shoe. We have all come to know and love him from his appearances in Air Jordan commercials. These feature a white leather upper with red and black accents. The only knock on these, as with all of the Air Jordan 4 (IV) leather versions, is that the front creases very easily, which is hard to maintain.

Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro - Fire Red: The Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro - Fire Red (White / Fire Red - Black) was released in December 2006 and retailed for $135. They are a bit different from the Retro Fire Reds released in 2000, as they don’t feature an all black midsole, but instead a combination of red and black, with a white toe, and a clear outsole. They also feature a “23″ stitched into the heel of the shoe, as well as the Jumpman logo at the back.
