The Superskate was the beginning of a new era for Adidas. It symbolized their commitment to building skateboarding shoes. Although its design in based on a basketball shoe, the leather toe guard and side panels were made of reinforced, layered leather.
A Bathing Ape Collaboration
In 2002, Adidas collaborated with Nigo and his A Bathing Ape company to produce a special Superskate. Three colourways were produced: white/ black, white/ green, and a striking snake-skin design. Only 500 pairs of each were produced, and every pair came with three different color laces as well as an A Bathing Ape lace jewel.
