The Adidas Forum produced in high, mid, and low cut designs- a first for an adidas basketball shoe at that time, yet all variants had an ankle strap.
They were built to last, with a tough leather upper to cope with the hard concrete street courts found all over the United States. Typically, adidas experimented with textures and the Forum was available in a shinny enamel finish, among other materials. Lots of experimenting went on in the creation of the upper on this shoe. The use of enamel was a particularly new design and at the same time it was invigorating. The shoe came in Hi and Lo versions. But performance came at a price, and the Forum was one of the first models to break the $100 barrier in the U.S.
In addition, unusual colourways were produced, such as chocolate brown, which made it popular with consumers. Surprisingly though, it was the $100 price tag that proved to be the key appealing feature. It gave the shoe style, and status.
