With 9 wins under her belt, Grete Waitz is considered icon when it comes to long distance running. Starting in 1978 and continuing through 1988, she would go on to win a gold medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki, and a silver at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In honor of Grete, who succumb to cancer at the age of 57, adidas has designed 3 Norwegian inspired colorways on 3 of their most popular runners, the adiZero Adios 2, adiZero Boston 3 , and Supernova Glide 4. Each model sports a variation of red, dark blue and orange, and adidas has agreed to give all profits from the sell of the shoes at the 2011 ING New York City Marathon on November 6 or at its sports performance store in SoHo to AKTIV Against Cancer, the charity Waitz founded in Oslo, Norway in November 2007.
