With so much talk about the Air Yeezy 2 hitting the air waves, we wanted to take a look at the shoe that most believe serves as inspiration for the new design. The Nike Air Tech Challenge has been around for quite some time. It started its life as an actual tennis shoe, but when it was Retro’d in 2007 and 2008 it became a lifestyle shoe. This transition was due to the change in customer demand for a lighter more stable tennis shoe. Originally a child of 1989, the Air Tech Challenge was even rocked as the signature shoe of Andre Agassi in its fourth version.

Since those days in 2007 and 2008, the model has laid pretty low; that is until we saw the Air Yeezy 2 at Coachella and before that in the Black Mamba film. Though we collected a few different models of the Nike Air Tech Challenge to show you in the gallery, it is the Air Tech Challenge II that bares the most resemblance to the Nike Air Yeezy 2. Both feature the signature grooved midfoot section as well as a protected Nike Air Unit on the heel. Additional similarities between the two show the outsole that extends onto the top of the toe; in the Air Yeezy 2s case, allowing for us to see the glow-in-the-dark material. And that’s just the sole. We haven’t even had a chance to ge to the upper, which we will reserve for later. Of course this is all speculation right now, and we plan on getting this all updated once we get some official pics or we get an official announcement. In the meantime, click here or here to see Kanye in whats is most likely a 1 of 1 sample of the Nike Air Yeezy 2.
