We have heard the name Tinker Hatfield here on KicksOnFire quite a few times. Not only is he the main designer of the Air Jordan line, he is also the designer of many other Nike silhouettes that you have grown to love over the years. After the Dwyane Wade and Kevin Hart Q and A session at the Jordan Brand store inside Footaction Culver City, I had the opportunity to do a brief interview with Tinker.

To start, I wasn’t prepared. It is not very often that you get to talk to one of the most influential footwear designers in the world, and I had no idea what to ask. At first I started to panic as I ran through all the embarrassing scenarios in my head. What if I said something stupid? What if I offended him? What if I had to sneeze in the middle of the interview? What if I mumbled like an idiot? What if I couldn’t control myself and hugged him and rested my head on his shoulder for the  entire time? It was a risk I was going to have to take. Maybe he would hug me back and it wouldn’t look all awkward.

Once I pulled myself together and made it to the back staging area for the interview, things went pretty smoothly. Tinker was very gracious and answered all of my questions. I won’t get into a lot of it here, because I want you to listen to the interview, but it was definitely enlightening as he discussed the Air Jordan 2012, the state of HTM, and his thoughts on the Retro craze.  I can honestly say that this was one of the best experiences I had over the entire weekend.  So go ahead and click the play button below, and get an earful from every Jordan fan’s favorite designer. Shoutout to the folks at F5ToRefresh.com that were there with us during the interview.
