If all else fails, a designer can always look to the Converse Chuck Taylor for a design overhaul. The Chuck Taylor has seen some many design changes and served as inspiration for so many different sneakers, that it is useless trying to keep track of them all. However, I can say withe confidence that some of the best interpretation fo the Chuck Taylor have come via collaboration with Converse directly. Converse recently hooked up with SAK by Japanese designer Ryusaka Hiruma and what you see above is the result.
Though Ryusaka Hiruma worked on a several Converse models, including the Jack Purcell and the One Star, it is the Chuck Taylor that really stands out. All three shoes feature the leather sole of a dress shoe, ink printed logos and other hand-stitched additions throughout the upper. Each shoe also comes in shades of tan, off-white and black leather with hand-cut logos. As you can see from the images, the shoe have retained the essence of the original, but sit in a luxury silhouette. And speaking of luxury, they are estimated to be priced between $600 and $800. Available exclusively at London stockist Dover Street Market.
