Whether we actually went to the moon, or it was some elaborate hoax by Hollywood, we will never know. I mean you did see the shadow on the flag was facing the wrong way didn’t you? But I digress. To commemorate the 40 year anniversary of the “lunar landing,” Nike and Nike 6.0 have collaborated with Astronaut Buzz Aldrin for the Rocket Hero Mavrk Mid 2.
Set to be released on January 1, 2010, the Rocket Heros are inspired by Buzz’s missions. Based in black with slight clouds of white in the uppers, it is easy to tell that space was part of the equation. The only other colors are the inside sole and the 2-tone swoosh to represent the dark and light side of the moon. The inside is actually a replica of Buzz’s first step on the moon and provides a beautiful contrast to the base black. Finally, Buzz’s autograph is etched on the heel in a light tan to match the inside sole.
Even the process of making the shoes was a bit sci-fi as they were cold wrapped, a process that makes them lighter than most extreme footwear on the market and uses less dangerous solvents well.[via FreshnessMag]
