We first featured this pair of Nike SB Dunk Highs in December and now have details about their release. They have been dubbed the Un-Heaven’s Gate as earlier samples of the Nike SB Dunk - Heaven’s Gate were heavily criticized.
In case you didn’t know, Todd Jordan, Nike SB Skater, designed the shoe dubbed the “Heaven’s Gate SB Dunk High.” In interviews of the past Jordan spoke of his inspiration for the shoes’ colorway and design style. Needless to say, once the public and Nike learned of the new nickname and meaning behind the shoe within the sneaker culture world, the Nike SB Fall 08 line up was tossed out and replaced with the UnFutura Dunks.
Due to the negative association between the shoe and the Heaven’s Gate Cult Tragedy many sneakerheads were not able to get their hands on them. However, Nike SB will be releasing a very similar model to the much-hyped Heaven’s Gate Dunk. This new model has naturally been given the name “Un-Heaven’s Gate” and that’s just how the story goes.
This pair sports suede materials and makes use of shades of purple, black and white. Look for them to release at part of Nike SB’s April 2009 collection. pics via jordan8420 / Flatspot.

Confusing story… but the shoes look nice. Not a big fan of suede though.
These are pretty nice. I like the purple on them, but i think the dark blue seude on the toe should be black. That would make them look better. But yeah, i dont know the first part of this story, so none of it really makes sense to me either.

Nah, George. The originals were dubbed Heaven’s Gate because of the infamous Heaven’s Gate cult, which ended in 39 people found dead in a mansion.
In reality, Nike should have made the shoe into a Cortez x Dunk hybrid or something. All of the cult members were found with identical black shirts and sweats, brand new black and white Cortez’s, an armband that read “Heaven’s Gate Away Team,” and a purple cloth covering their faces and torsos.
I’d really enjoy, from an artistic standpoint, to see “Home Team” appear somewhere in the shoe.

i would definately kill these with an outfit! purple is also my favorite color. They are not girly at all. If your a boy that can dress really well…you can pull off any color with the right outfit

They should’ve went ahead and gone purple on the toe box as well. If they’re calling that purple, it’s too dark. It looks more like Navy. If they wanted to use two purples they should’ve gone lighter, not darker, on the front. These are cool as is, but I won’t be getting them.

It has to be hard to skaeboard in these high tops. All the skateboarding shoes I see are low tops.
