Nike Big Nike Hi LE - Phi Slamma Jamma

Nike Big Nike Hi LE - Phi Slamma Jamma

The Nike Big Nike has made a comback as of late, as we’ve featured the white / cement, university blue / white - medium grey - game yellow, and the charcoal / dark obsidian - white colorways. This pair is inspired by the Phi Slamma Jamma, the nickname given to the great 1982-1984 University of Houston basketball tam. Some of those players ended up becoming NBA legends, including Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.

The shoe itself is inspired by different features of the team. For example, the plaid on the side panels is reminiscent of Coach guy V. Lewis, who always wore plaid jackets. The upper features a red design along with white accents on the toe box, ankle area, shoelaces and midsole. The color is obviously inspired by the school’s official colors.  Upon release, the shoes will be exclusive to House of Hoops locations. via Foot Locker.

i like how it’s retro, i;m realy feeling this shoe, but they couldv’e done a better job on the nike sign on the back, it makes it look too old skool

I’m tired of seeing these big NIke’s. I just don’t find them attractive.

  9. CJ Douty says:

I like the inspiration behind the shoe. I always like it when they show love to old school players. Thats just the inspiration though. The shoes themselves are just okay. I like the symbols for the players but the plaid is downright ugly.

  17. Patrick says:

Pretty cool shoes, complete classics. They should make more colors though possibly a black/neon green could look pretty good. Or even a blue black color scheme. Love the plaid commemoration of coach guy lewis.

  18. Ohhh Schnitzel! Lumberjack plaid in the Spring time… No Goooooo… But, it is a nice colorway :)… Just some other time. P.S the details on the upper lace holes look disgusting.

  19. Phi Slamma Jamma lmao. Thats Fly. Love the pattern and creativity that came into making these. Jus the name alone makes me want these. A++

  20. sb-fiend-sb says:

ok, first of tha name is fly have 2 give em creativity points for that…. but after that its just mixin a slightly good idea with a classic and it results in bieng awkwardly ugly….

The Nike logo on the back looks more baseball-like than basketball
