Lakai Howard Select Mid – Grey Suede

This latest offering from Lakai comes from the mind of Rick Howard. And what a mind! For those of you not in the know, Rick is a lifelong skater who also owns the Crailtap distribution company, which in turns owns Lakai, Royal Trucks, and Chocolate Skateboards among many other skate-related companies.

Here in the Lakai Howard Select Mid – Grey Suede he pays tribute to skating, footwear, and the Crailtap web site.

Based on a previous design, Rick offers an updated, mid-top version of the Howard. The grey and black double-stitched suede upper looks modest enough, until you see the lime green heel details! In the unmistakable Crailtap font, Howard references the popular “Ring Ring Ring” section of the website on the upper, and the Crailtap logo on the midsole. The lime green is found on the outsole, too, with its funky bubble pattern. The insole is printed with even more references to the site, including “Skate Fairy” and “Sanger Sings.”

…What, were you expecting a plain-looking shoe from a guy who’s known for wearing checkered short sleeved shirts?

A shoe designed and tested by Rick, though, is bound to be more than just a flashy fashion accessory. The flexible rubber outsole, shock-absorbing insole, and increased ankle padding are all about comfort and control.
