Warning: Extreme controversial topic ahead… With 2008 behind us, how many of you guys are concerned about the future of the Air Jordan brand? With the numbered series (Air Jordans 1-23) past its final releases, what can we expect? We have already had a few glimpses of what is to come:
- Air Jordan Fusions (Air Force 1 x Air Jordan)
- Air Jordan Hybrids (Air Jordan True Flights, Air Jordan 6 Rings)
- Air Jordan 2009 (the so-called Air Jordan 24)
- Upcoming Retros
Is the sneaker community buying it? There seem to be much debate and mixed feelings regarding the road map Air Jordan brand has decided to take. As for the Air Jordan Fusion, some OG collectors don’t even regard them as a form of Jordans. While others who enjoy the idea, hold them to be collector items. One thing is for certain, the Fusion concept has definitely boosted a new crowd of Jordan fans to the shoe game. Whether you are a newcommer or a OG sneakerhead, one thing is for sure, the fusions are definitely hurting your bank account. With the wide array of colorways released in such a short period of time, one would be a fool to try to collect them all.
The initial release of the Air Jordan 6 Rings Concords and Air Jordan 6 Rings - Black / Red caused a stir up but then lead to a steep decline in demand with the release (present/future) of some ridiculous color-ways (Championship / Team Colors). What is it with Jordan Brand trying to release one model in 15 different color-ways within 6 months? Back in the days, collectors often found themselves saving up for the next Jordan release (often 3 months apart). Now days, it seems like most collectors are passing on most of the releases. Is the Air Jordan market too over-staurated?
What about the Air Jordan True Flights? Some love the idea of a supercharged version of the Air Jordan 7 while others are filled with groans. Some collectors on sneaker forums even blatanly label the Air Jordan True Flights as “fakes” and “wanna-be”. Definitely not a good way to debut in the sneakerhead community. Meanwhile the crowd that cheers for them can’t get enough. With the release of color-way remnicsent of the Air Jordan 7 classic color-ways such as the: Air Jordan True Flight - White / Court Blue, Air Jordan True Flight - Cardinal, Air Jordan True Flight - Black / Varsity Maize, are collectors going to give in and get their hands on them while they can?
The Air Jordan 2009 is the supposed replacement of the Air Jordan 24. After the discontinuation of the numbered series, every new Jordan will be named according to the release year (Air Jordan 2009, 2010, 2011…). The official unveiling of the Air Jordan 2009 went smoothly but are the Jordan fans sold? Is the Air Jordan 2009 just another Jumpman looking pair which looks like the Air Jordan 23? It’s still a little too early in the game to call out the fate of the Air Jordan 2009. With only a few color-ways floating around the net, the reponses have been filled with undecisivness. Time will tell…
One thing is for sure, whether you are a new collector or an addict, there is no way that you can pass up a Retro during these times. With the bombardment of 100s of color-ways of fusions and hybrids, there is only one way to stay true and safe. Collect OGs or Retros!

I agree that the original releases of the 6 Rings (Concords and Breds) were decent releases. Then as I discover more colorways of the 6 Rings, they looked absolutely ridiculous. Colorways for some of them are horrible as well. Although the only pair of 6 Rings I like are the Concords, I don’t think I’ll be buying them at all.
The Air Jordan True Flights look pretty nice to me, since they resemble the VIIs and my favorite Jordans are the VIIs. However, I’m not willing to spend $140 for them. I’d rather pay a bit more to buy a pair of VIIs instead.
As for the Air Jordan 2009, it is an easy pass for me. The only thing I like about this shoe is the sole. Not feeling the way the entire shoe looks.
i agree that on some points about releasing so many CWs of a certain shoe(all which are ugly) is a terrible idea. the fusions are something new, but its not hurting my bank account. buying og and retros do enough damage. JB will never die tho. every customer who walks in knows what a jordan shoe is, regardless of the shoe itself. now if your talking about collectors whove been in the “game” since 85, then this article may have a point. but on a worldwide scale, jordan brand wont ever fade.
Jordan is above all a company and its purpose it’s to sell. it tries to please most large number and that crosses by several colors of a single model or the fusion. It will never be the end of jordan because if the company came to decline it will begin selling more RETRO (A value sure).
I like RETRO model because I was born in the 80s, I saw the best player of the basketball history (Jordan) I liked him and his shoes. Today the purpose of jordan compagny is to continue and for that he has to attract people who does not know him and have no our nostalgia.(sorry for my english i am french)

this topic is very hard to debate, but im gonna rip it. i dont wanna say that Jordan Brand is gunna die out cuz i dont wanna see it die, but if it keeps goi9ng the way that it is some thing big is gunna happen, you see im from Boston and iv’e seen alot of the Boston Jordan fan base turn to Nike SB because they feel that JB has gotten way too hypebeast(commercial).And im gunna admit it has gotten hypebeast,and im sure this has happened all over the country. What about the new Air Jordan 1’s. There are more and more colorways coming out like all new jordans but its a high top “which are the HUGE thing right now” with a Vandal like strap. I bought a pair and love them. Maybe there will be more inovation not like the true flight just totally updating a classic, But keep there retro models and making them a little different. The Air Jordan Strap in my book was a success.It gives a new look to the one but with out the strap gives that completly retro feel “defiently in the OG color way.” Do you think more shoes like it will come out. Keeping the retro models with a little tweak. Maybe SO or Maybe NO?

The jordan brand do a good job releasing the retros and the good hybrids..the fusions suck ass..but the air jordans aint special any more because they come out in a millions of colors and every year evry month..if u want to keep the hype alive they need make the retros come out every 5 or 4 months and also make them limited very limited …people would go nuts and be happy because they have a pair of jordans that will be hard 2 get ..there to much quantity and evrbody and there momas and grandmas and aunts and uncles have a piar of jordans ….its out there 2 much..i mean too much…i go 2 school and i see like 40 people wiff the same color six rings and its sucks….they need 2 slow down on the release..and make it more limited and hard 2 find …its dying slowly..
Jordan brand is a monster. The brand will never die out or lose popularity. They can retro 3’s, 4’s, 5’s whenever they want and there will always be demand for them. People were buying fake Jordan, now JB comes out with fusions that look like fakes. They have it on lock. Me personally, I have moved on to converse skateboarding chucks. most comfortable shoe ever.

Well…where do i start??? First off i would like to say i agree with the fact that releasing 10+ CWs of the same shoe in a short span of time is not good. It makes the shoes less special b/c so many come out and they each mean less. But JB does it for the money. Also, the quality of Jays today cant hold a candle to Jays from the 80s 90s and early 2000s. Packs suck lets face it. I think many will agree when i say that single releases are better than packs due to the fact that few ppl really want both shoes in a pack. AJ 09s are wack, fusions are horrible (i.e. Fusion 4s), True flights are hella ugly, and six ring colorways are ridiculous. I feel like im forgetting something…

The Jordan brand is dead. People want the old Jordans back but that’s not right to keep bringing the same sneakers over and over again. The new sneakers they are creating nobody likes them. But look back the 3s look a lot like the 4s just like the 7s look like the true flights you have to embrace what comes out only if you like it if you don’t buy the sneakers that come out don’t buy them and the Jordan brand won’t make money so their going to go back to the drawing books and try to make more money. Me I don’t like any fusions at all and I don’t like the true flights to be totaly honest I don’t like any of the jordans past the 14s but I do like the spizikes the dub zeros are kind of wack to me and these packages are too much money to be releasing every month. So hopefully people won’t buy the fusions or the trueflights and Jordan won’t make money off the new kicks and realize what the people want.

This topic has been bubbling in my head since before it was even posted and I’m sure it has for many. The issue is that to us the sneakerhead community JB seems to be digging its grave and pretty quickly might I add. But to the normal consumer base they will keep buying any type of Jordan weather it be the 2009, 6 Rings, and the most recent addition the True Flights.
By my own personal opinion the Fusions never burned a hole in my pockect since I consider them the WORST addition to JB since the Air Jordan 20 (Ugliest Jordan imo). And I must say there is an over saturation of different color ways, 1’s used to be quite limited when I was younger hell the last retro I remember when I was young were the patent leather 1’s and now as of 07 - 08 theres been soo many absolutley ridiculous colorways its become an eye sore.
Which brings me to the 6 rings, on initial release I liked them I really looked forward to them mainly the black/red colorway. I even bought a pair which I love. Then just as soon as I buy it a ridiculous amount of colorways are already set to be released which is mind boggling.
I remember a time when Jordan releases were pretty much almost 2 years apart, maybe 2 - 3 colorways for a release and then another Jordan wasn’t retroed within a 1 1/2 - 2 year timespan. And this really allowed for anticipation and even allowed stores to raise the prices of the shoes at the time of release.
To me and I’m pretty sure to the rest of the sneakerhead community the direction JB is headed is becoming the death of dynasty. But we can all take comfort in the fact that as all these insanely ridiculous excuses for “Jordans” are released the ones that we do currently own grow in value economically and maybe even sentimentally for some.
I’m going to be looking forward to retros of some of my favorite OG’s (i.e., Charcoal 9’s, Bourdeax 7’s, Indiglo 14’s just list a few) just so I can wear them without fear of breaking! Hopefully they will be retroed if not, Jordan won’t be seeing a dime from me.

In my reason why the AIR JORDAN brand is so releasing many color ways is because it’s simple, the United States’ Poor Economy. Their stocks in which is part of the NIKE stocks in the stock market are very LOW. They release many Exclusives every month because they so worried about their stocks and fearing that they might go bankrupt. This the reason why they made the Countdowns, AJF’s, Hybrids, AJ 2009 and the “Frankenteins”. You must understand that they can make good products but not on these economic times. Right now, they are not worrying about their product’s designs and color-ways. No… They are worrying about making much money as possible off of their products. The Jordan Brand is not the only company in this situation but the whole stock market companies are worried about their money off of sales products. Just wait, they will come into their senses after U.S. Economy gets better… And I definately go with the RETRO’s…

Me being a business major I can bring a different perspective to this. Jordan brands number one goal right now is to make money. If a business wants to make money, they have to release something fresh and new to cover all thier fan bases. Believe it or not, not everyone loves Retro’s and if they keep comming out with Retros for that single group of people, Jordan Brand is not going to make any money. For example, think abot the car industry. We know that Honda makes the Civic. If all they did was only make the civic in different colors and did not make any other car, people would be fed up. Think about this from Brand Jordan’s side. They need to make money, designers need to eat. I know many of you hate the fusions and the teams but guess what, people are still buying that shit, that is why they keep on comming out every month. If you don’t like it, just don’t buy it and maybe switch brands. Jordan is going to do what they have to do to make money and most likely they won’t listen to us. The Jordan brand has gotten saturated in my opinion. I will stick to Dunk SBs.

I work at footlocker and can’t stand the fusions they need to stop making the fusions. I love forces and Retros but together they look like garbage there has not been one that I have liked. Just thought I would state my opinion.
Jordan’s died 2 years ago, when some idiot thought, hey, let’s quit being original and pushing the envelope, and take what made us great, and mash them together and slap some ugly colors to them. The whole advent of the fusions, Spiz’ikes, .5’s, tarnished the entire legacy of the Jordans. I’ve seen some of the stuff coming out, and it’s nothing but ripoffs of old Bo Jackson cross trainers and Lebrons from 3 years ago. The 2009 is nothing more than a combination of the XIV, XV, and XVII. It looks like nothing more than a .5 with a $190 pricetag on it. Last year was barely the last hurrah for retros. Even then, they played with colors on to many of the shoes, like the XX, XVIII, to make it really worth getting them. In the current economy, $310 list is too much for shoes. Going forward, $190 for A pair of shoes, and $275 or more for a two pack, people can’t afford that. Jordan’s have always been known for being an elite shoe. It was expensive, always, for its time, just above other shoe prices, and I could always understand that. It’s what made it so desireable, having to work for it, there only being 3 or 4 color combinations a year coming out. Now, its 7 or 8 color combinations, lows, mids, this, that. I don’t think the price point of the 2009 is the problem. I think the lack of innovation and design and style is. Factor that in with the fact that people just don’t care what you wear anymore, with a company that has basically shovel fed its customer base garbage the last 3 or 4 years in terms of quality and product, you’ve got a brand with no direction, a corporate icon with no clue, and designers fat and lazy sitting around wondering what uninspired piece of garbage to relase next.
To be honest Air Jordan is still alive cuz the people who is dissin the Fusions And the AIR JORDAN 2009 ARE going to get them anyways. But they do need more RETRO’S TO BE RELASED LIKE THE: 9,11,10,12,16,17,18,19,21& anything else.

I like the Infrared AJF 6 Fusions and the True Flight Whit and Purple. I am also feweling the Jazz 6 rings. Other than that Im retro junky to the death. So Hopefully they release some 5-15s for me to cop early. Im in need of a new pair to drop NOW. But jordan makes to much money for it to stop. There pure fans than neeed the sneaks to continue…like me.

the jordan brand will never die, at least, not until michael does. Lets hope that isnt for a while though. I like the retros and i’m waiting for more to drop. I’m glad they stopped at #23 in the line. It was his number and all. I dont think naming the next pair in line the 2009’s though, but then what else would there be..

i have been into jordans for a very long time… since as far as i can remember i have always worn a pair.. my first pair ever were the 12s white and blue.. bak in ‘97 when i was in the seventh grade and i have only liked the originals.. i dont rock no air jordans if they are not the og or retros

I think the JB is still hot and running.! The new fusion 9s are hot. It’s nothing wrong with the flights or sox rings..just cuz they look similar to the classic don’t mean they suck.

Dub zeros are just like some low top 6rings and that’s prolly what people wanted..So I think JB is going strong! Only thing I don’t like bout the fusions are the soles..they are so plain it throws the shoes off..

i love old jordans… then the retro comes out and its sick to have the pair again because when i had them and i was younger i wore them and for the most part destroyed them so i LOVE COLLECTING the retro version and just stocking them away for my collection.. what annoys me BIG TIME is the collection packs with the 1 hot shoe and the 1 nasty shoe ! yeah you know what im talking about ! and you have to pay over $300 then hope you can sell the ugly pair for at least 125-150 to make it better knowing you had to buy 2 shoes.. i think jordan brand should focus on making retros and high quality retros and re releasing them 2 every month until the line is re released… i personally think they would sell a ton more and they would not have to waste time making all these crap fusion shoes and other bogus shoes they are putting into the market these days.. the og shoes is what made the jordan brand (and jordan of course) now give back to the people who want real athentic shoes similiar to the old ones and release them in a fashion where everyone everywhere will own them
